AS Designer Project
We are inviting emerging designers that can produce innovative, creative, cutting edge or couture garments or accessories to take part in our project. The Fashion Designers’ & Craft Makers’ Designer Project is aimed at creative and talented designers that would like to work on a fashion project for a shoot/presentation or produce a fashion portfolio.
We have shoots/presentations in London UK 2022, Kingston Jamaica 2023 and plan to return to NYC in the USA 2024.
This themed project open to emerging designers but any other designers that would like to come on board can do so.
Fashion designers that wish to take part are expected to produce a written personal profile/essay of 500 words, a story board or mood board and make couture, atelier or avant-garde garments or accessories guidance and mentorship will be offered if needed. The finish garments/accessories must be avant-garde or couture, designers are asked to produce sketches or photos to be placed on the storyboard and are asked to gather information from field research and online. We will give each designer one to one support and mentoring if needed.
To take part designers should send an email to: [email protected] to request a booking form; designers MUST send little bit of info about themselves with images and past work; then write ‘FDC Designer Project' in the subject line.
More information:
FDC Designer Project was founded by London based Knitwear Designer Joanna Marcella. The aim is to increase the number and visibility of exceptionally gifted multi-cultural designers; to encourage designers to reach their true potential and become as high profile as designers like: Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood or Alexander McQueen to mention a few.
The Brief:
The brief is to design cutting edge, couture garments or accessories based on the LIFE of ‘British Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen. Designers will study an aspect of Alexander McQueen's life and do extensive research on the chosen topic; we will encourage critical thinking and as much field work as possible. Designers will produce a a hardcopy story/mood board should be as three dimensional as possible; a full briefing will be given once designers are registered. Designers can produce a research/look book instead of a story/mood board if prefered.
Alexander McQueen: The visionary
McQueen produced some the greatest shows in fashion history: McQueen has created Perspex catwalks showered with rain and others that burst into flames; and he has required models to skate around a larger-than-life-size snowstorm or stalk the world's most glamorous padded cell.
With this project we expect designers to think outside of the box. Our team will be able to give support if needed; designers under 18 years must have parent’s permission.
Designers that take part in this project must be willing to produce avant-garde designs inspired by the iconic designer Alexander McQueen (this means research the designer himself with all of his complexities not his designs)
We ask designers to be willing to be open-minded and be willing to think outside of the box. We will make suggestions on how to approach this way of thinking.
